In May of 2023, Academic Advancements launched their new initiative to support the education of severely underprivileged children in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador, a globally overlooked community.
Led by Ming Wang '24 and Alexandra Simms '24, our mission for this 8-week program is to improve their level of English through introducing English based on their surrounding environment. Students will learn vocabulary and grammar about transportation, weather, climates, family, and more. To achieve this goal, we partnered with Yachana Foundation to offer online lessons from the United States to facilities at Yachana. These sessions will be conducted weekly over 8 weeks and will be focused on teaching them about English.

Alex Simms, our head tutor for this program, will work interactively with the 10-15 students of all ages involved in this program. Alex Simms, has an energetic attitude coupled with her helpful hand gestures and our class resources, ability to speak Spanish, and focus on language teaching.
With the expertise of our dedicated team, we have created a comprehensive curriculum. With Yachana Foundation's help, we have set up a facility in the Amazon Forest at Yachana with a laptop, wi-fi connection, and a projector where students can learn. Most students travel an hour by foot to the location to learn English, while some join online from their homes. These students are at the lower ends of English proficiency, and our aim is to increase their fluency as well as understanding of culture.
On May 14th, 2023, we hosted our first session teaching them about family:
We look forward to more future programs with Yachana Foundation to help more underprivileged kids in the Amazon.
